organised chaos

I mentioned earlier that life after exams has been very very good and pretty much a heavenly indulgence.

You know the things that some people do, or at least the friends around me always do. Like you are not supposed to say things like “my/your complexion is getting better” or “my/your cramps are not so severe now”. Of which saying the like will send everyone in proximity on frantic knockings on any wood-looking material (or when none of these exists, knock the skull of the nearest woodblock-looking person).

As I type this, I am reminded of two persons.

#1: Meiqi – whom we all know practise this diligently. Heh.

#2: Maomao – who accused Zhen and I of praising her complexion the last time they stayed over at my place, urps.

Ok. The point is, swiftly after I declared my life a bliss, it fell into an abyss. Think: a circus clown juggling ten balls with only one pair of hands. Ack.

It started with promising dear Maomao that Collin and I will work for this 7 days trade workshop organised by Com*mon*wea*lth Sec*ret*ari*at. After all, Collin was literally bumming (after his rather hilarious internship application, erhem) and most importantly, the pay was a freaking 12 dollars per hour. Where the hell do you find a rate like that? (Thank you, Maomao! Muaksss)

The job was simple, to take minutes throughout the entire workshop which consists of many presentations packed back to back. I learnt, do not underestimate the job of a secretary. Damn lar, try having to pay full attention from 9am to 6pm. I don’t even do that in school.

Add to the equation, three preorders and one new series at LRH. I literally find myself sprawled across my bed at the end of every day.

But there are certain aspects of the job that was fatabulous. Money is one. The yummilicious food (one lunch break and two tea breaks to be exact) is another. My personal favourite was to be able to play dress up. Wahahaha. Call me a bimbo but I actually enjoy dressing office, albeit more fancifully. I was amazed to be able to pull out a week long of semi-formal clothes from my very office-wear lacking wardrobe. Last but not least, and unmeasureable in any sense, was the knowledge gained in the workshop.

I recall during the semester that Sam and I was talking about including certain country case studies into our report, to which he boldly declared that Africa is not a continent, i.e. he meant more like Africa is insignificant to our topic. If anything, the workshop gave me some firsthand insights into these developing countries, and it’s true, they have concerns that are quite different from us. I was feeling quite proud to be Singaporean at certain junctures, minus the times when some speakers get over-propagandist about our system, urg. The latter was quite a pain really.

When countries develop, the rich gets richer and the poor gets children.

Our thank-god-it’s-over break came in the form of three cute chipmunks called Alvin, Simon and Theodore! Ahhhhhhh, super duper cute. No spoilers here! You guys got to catch it! It’s simply loveeeee.

My favourite, Theodore! :)
